In a dramatic turn of events, law enforcement officials from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the 8th Judicial Probation Office successfully located and rescued two children who had been abducted from their mother's care nearly two weeks ago. The joint operation, carried out on the morning of August 8, led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man on kidnapping charges.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office investigators, in collaboration with an officer from the 8th Judicial Probation Office, tirelessly worked to pinpoint the whereabouts of the missing children. Their efforts culminated in a coordinated operation involving the Franklin County Special Response Team (SRT), consisting of experienced Franklin County Sheriff's Deputies and Mt. Vernon Police Officers, with additional support from officers from the Franklin County Water District.
The operation centered on a residence situated in the southern region of Franklin County. Armed with a search warrant, the SRT team executed a meticulously planned raid on the location. Inside the residence, authorities discovered the missing 2 and 6-year-old children unharmed and in relatively good condition.
The focal point of the operation, 36-year-old Cody Cunningham, was also found at the residence and subsequently taken into custody. Cunningham was apprehended on an existing warrant for kidnapping, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.
